Youth Gun Safety and Accident Prevention
A family that collaborates to enhance their understanding and safe handling of guns significantly reduces the risk of accidents. By involving as many responsibly armed gun owners as possible in youth gun safety training classes, we improve our chances of instilling the importance of firearm safety in future generations.
Key Objectives:
Children will learn how to respond appropriately in various situations, especially when encountering an unattended firearm.
Firearm Safety Basics for Youth
Regardless of firearm type or the shooting activity involved, it is crucial for participants to abide by the Universal Firearms Safety Rules. This youth gun safety course covers these four essential rules, alongside additional topics like clearance checks, proper ammunition usage, and dry-fire safety practices.
Youth Shooting Fundamentals
In this class, children will be introduced to the seven shooting fundamentals, learning their significance and application in safe shooting practices.
Handgun Familiarization
This training class familiarizes children with the principles of dry-fire practice, reinforcing safety rules and shooting fundamentals through various dry-fire exercises.
Firearms Heritage & Use
Firearms hold significant value in American history and culture. In this training session, children gain insights into the Second Amendment and the numerous legal uses for firearms. This education not only alleviates stigma but also emphasizes the historical importance of the right to keep and bear arms.
Range Rules & Etiquette
For new shooters, the shooting range can seem like a daunting place. This lesson teaches children what to expect and how to behave, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience at the range.
Long-Gun Familiarization
This training helps children understand different types of long guns, revealing what they are, how they function, and dispelling common myths around their safe and responsible use.
Children’s Situational Awareness
This crucial information will instill in children an understanding of situational awareness, drawing on Col. Jeff Cooper’s Color Codes of Awareness.
Parents play a vital role in establishing safe practices and bear ultimate responsibility for their child's behavior and safety. Concepts can fade without regular practice, so repetition and ongoing conversations help reinforce standard safety procedures.
Is owning a firearm required to attend the class?
No, ownership of a firearm is not necessary to participate. The class is designed for all children and families, regardless of whether they live in a household with firearms.
Will my child receive a certificate or proof of completion?
Yes, children who complete the BST Youth Gun Safety class will receive a Certification of Completion, acknowledging their participation and understanding of the core safety principles emphasized in the program.
